A Bold New Step For Health Freedom In Texas

by on March 21, 2013

As the debate over the consequences of the Affordable Care Act (also know as Obamacare) has continued to rage, what has been lost in the furor is the impact the Act will have on the future availability and effectiveness of current health care services.  Many of my fellow Texans are already aware of this impact, and are attempting to take increasing charge of their own health.

However, the constraints of the current Texas health care system,as well as that of every other state in our nation,  place control of that system squarely in the hands of the economically motivated health care trade unions.  In the process, they deny our fellow citizens access to the full range of health care treatments and modalities, many of which are proven safe and effective but pose an economic threat to the status quo.

It was Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and George Washington’s personal physician, who long ago foretold the effect of this situation on our personal liberty:

“Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a Special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom.”

I discuss the effect of these same constraints in greater detail in Adrenaline Nation.

On March 8th, Texas State Representative David Simpson filed House Joint Resolution (HJR) 125, a proposed amendment to the Texas constitution, which would guarantee every Texan the unrestricted right of access to the health care treatment and practitioner of their choice.

HJR 125 is intended to place the power and responsibility for individual health care decisions back where they belong: in the hands of the individual citizen.  Once enacted into law in Texas, this amendment will become the template for other states to use to restore health liberty across the nation.

If you are a Texan, you can find out what you can do to support his effort by going to www.texashealthfreedom.com and following the instructions on the home page.  If you are not a Texan, but would like to support this effort, feel free to let your Texas friends know about it and ask them to make their voices heard to their elected Texas state representatives.

Thank you for your help!
